Abstract


The. author performed the school based oral health care project at Mock
cheon primary school for 300 children. The school dental health care center vas established and managed by some dental students and dental hygiene students under the supervision of a public health dentist.
Comprehensive oral health care such as primary, secondary and tertiary preventive dental care was supplied to all object children for 2 years. The oral health status, cost-benefit effects, and supply and demand for dental cares in .his program were examined. The results were as follows:
1. The dental needs were decreased in the periords of incremental dental health care compared to fundamental periods.
2, DMF rate was 41.89% and df rate was 84.97% in the experimental group, and 69,59% and 94.81% in control group.
3. The DT rate was 69.6%, and the FT rate was 29,6% in teh experimental group, and 79.28% and 19.13% in the control group.
4. The DMFT index was 0.90 and the df index was 3.33 in the experimental group, and 2.07 and 4.62 in the control group.
5. It was calculated that Clune¢¥s index for first molar health level was 97.9% in the experimentl group and 94.1% in the control group.
6. Cost-benefit effects were calculated to 8% in incremental health care periods.
7. It is recommended that school based oral health care program should be extended gradually to whole area of Korea under the management of public health dentist.
